It really depends on how you're doing it. If you have any propriatary software such as Vegas, Final Cut, Premier, or even Movie Maker, you can just save as (Export or render) as an MP3 or other file of your choice.

I use gold wave and love it!

Sound Forge wont do it. I'm talkin 'bout *.flz files, and *.mp4 and vidios i download with Youtube Downloader. Youtube downloader will convert to Mp3, but is that losing any more audio quolety then was already lost from the person who put up the vidio? This is why i was thinking instead of converting the file, I could just export the audio out.

By default, Gold Wave won't do it either, but if you install the KLite Megga Codec pac, it will. It just needs the decoder for FLV is all.

you'd have to by Gold Wave though wouldn't you ?

and I wonder if KLight mega pac would work with other software. I could use Winamp to do it, but Winamp doesn't play all those file types.

There's a youtube to mp3 website which works really well. Just search for Youtube to MP3 or something along those lines - I'm sorry I can't recall the actual name. It does work pretty well though. I don't believe you lose any clarity - at least I've never noticed. I'm hardly an audiofile, but I'd like to think I have a pretty decent ear.

Is that KLite mega pack free? Gold Wave can convert .avi files, I've done it a lot, but if I could get it to convert mp4 and flv too that would be awesome. But I know that not all Goldwave plugins are free, so I figured I'd ask.

Yes, it's free. Sound forge should be able to use it as well, as long as it can use system decoders.

Hi.
The company that makes youtube to mp3 converter also makes a video to mp3 converter which works really nice.
When i didn't have a digital recorder i used to use the camera of my phone to make recordings and then convert the mp4 file in to mp3.
Have a look at www.dvdvideosoft.com and download video to mp3 converter.
But if you are going to work with youtube i think the youtube to mp3 does exactly the same job without having to convert the video first. The sound quality you get is very good and there are several presets you can choose from.

Yeah I know about the Youtube to MP3 converter, I've used that. but what i'm tryin to figure out is. Is it takeing the audio out of the vidio stream? or is it doing an actual conversion which makes a lossy format more lossy? See as I understand it in a vidio there is the vidio portion, then there is the audio portion. You put the audio portion in the vidio as an MP3 stream, like 192KBPS for instance.

I am not sure but i have got the impression that the program can access the audio of each video using the youtube api as it is without loozing the original quality. There is even the option to download in loceless wav which is the sound as it was uploaded on youtube.
I don't know any technical details but this is my impression.
